FIREFIGHTERS battled a blaze involving 15 tonnes of foam at a Darlaston recycling plant.

Crews from Walsall, Wednesbury and Bilston were called to the blaze at European Metal Recycling in Bentley Road South at around 2pm yesterday (Monday).

The blaze had broken out in a 15 ton pile of recycled foam in pellet form, which was stored in an outer building of the site.

Crews were on site for more than an hour tackling the blaze.

Around a third of the stock was destroyed in the blaze.

Bentley Road South was closed for around an hour with residents urged to stay indoors.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been established.
